Pack Aspiration

I tear open the letter that I had been anxiously awaiting for. “Welcome the Peace Corps; as you prepare for your service commitment, we ask that you pack no more than two bags for the twenty-seven month volunteer assignment.” I quickly skimmed the letter hoping there would be guidance on how to pack all of my hopes and dreams into just two bags, as well. The excitement and adrenaline rushes through me as well as the ‘oh no, this is about to get real feeling” that caused me jolt of worry; Can I do this?  Am I good enough? Will I be able to learn another language? Will I be able to contribute?  What the heck did I know?  What could I teach? What do I know at 24 years old?  Will my future community want a refund or want to return me because I know absolutely nothing! Will I ever be the same?

I share with you my post-race report of the Boulder Ironman (IM) that I raced in August 2014.  I had an incredible journey and learned more about my mental and physical capabilities as well as the power of “community."  I learned what I “can” do versus what “I cannot" and that the mind is so powerful and when our physical capabilities are tapped out, that a positive mind will carry you forward. That I can run with my soul, when my feet are tired.

Let the Journey Begin!

About 20 years ago, I wrote every day for over 2 years. I wrote on damp and dusty old notebooks using a crappy pencil. I wrote when I was happy, I wrote when I was confused, I wrote when I was sad, I wrote when I was angry, and I wrote when I was excited. I wrote when I had nothing to write about and when I was homesick.
